Help: What to Write About?

A friend of mine from Alabama was up here a couple of weeks ago and we were discussing the fact that this blog is dormant. The main problem I’ve had ever since returning to the States is that I don’t know what to write about. The blog is supposed to be about China, but to be honest I don’t have a whole lot going on in my life related to China right now. Re-branding was one suggestion my friend made. But I really like The Weifang Radish. The best I could come up with sitting here thinking of what to write about was a conversation my wife and I had this evening over dinner about the difference in eating customs between China and the US. I even wrote a couple sentences on the topic, but then I thought, is that really what I want this blog to be about. So I put it to the reader–what should I write about?

I’d like to see something about the reverse culture shock of returning home.

Seeing your own culture from the point of view of the partial outsider you’ve become.

Some ideas of how some parts of Chinese culture may work well in in a western setting.

I would be interested to read about the difference in eating customs between the Chinese and other cultures.

Life – you should write about your daily life.

I know I may not be the best example, since I’ve stopped writing (haven’t got the urge atm), but you can write a lot about daily life and points of interest nevertheless. Doesn’t have to do with China or Chinese related issues to be interesting or valid for the blog. That may have been how the blog started, but it should change as well as your life does. You shouldn’t be forced to stop blogging or live you life after your blog ;-)

Keep the name and layout if you want to, and let it be a reminder of a phase in your life that made you who you are and how you got there.

Just my 5 cents. Hope to see you writing again soon.

A late response, but I echo Peter’s sentiments. The insights of someone we all know of as an interesting writer on daily life is worth reading, whether or not they are in an unusual environment.
