Called Scriber Is Not Reachable
When I lived in China and I would get the following busy message I always cringed a bit at the English, but forgave them because, after all, it was English in China.

Sorry, called scriber is not reachable, please dial later.
However, upon moving back to the US, calling a Chinese number and getting this message, I find the poor quality of English, a portion of which is almost completely unintelligible, ridiculously unacceptable. How hard would it be to find a native Chinese person with perfect English and a good voice to do a recording!?

The same thing is clearly true of many things in China, but I’m always concerned about the airport bus announcement which is in truly terrible English. If this is going to be the first thing that people hear when they arrive in the city, they are not presenting a very good image of themselves. As you say, there are many fluent English speakers in China, it just seems like laziness not to bother.
