Weird Pinyin

There are some Chinese syllables that just aren’t heard very often. For example, cen 参, jiong 窘, nüe 虐, shuan 涮 and weng 翁. Today I came across the character 缪, miù. I asked my wife about the character and she started sounding it out loud slowly to herself in pinyin, “mi-iu miu.” Researching this post I also found chuai 揣 and seng 僧, neither of which I think I have ever heard before either. And these aren’t even counting tones. There are other syllables that I hear and use all the time, such as zhǔn 准, but almost never hear or use with another tone, such as zhūn 谆. Weird.
