Bruce and Simone

Jinjin and I met Bruce McKenzie, and his wife, Simone, for dinner here in Beijing a couple days ago. Bruce writes a blog titled bioneural.net with the tagline “stuff worth sharing”, and is part of the 9rules Network.

Bruce and Simone live in the UK most of the time and are currently traveling here in China. I discovered Bruce’s blog back in 2005 when I was a .Mac subscriber and iBlog user, as his blog was one of the best iBlog blogs out there. Bruce and I have since both left .Mac and iBlog for WordPress.

During dinner, Bruce mentioned that I was the first person he’d met online first and then met in real life. Same for me. The social networking aspects of the internet are incredible.

Thanks Kevin! We really enjoyed our evening with you and Jinjin in Beijing—great company and one of the tastiest meals on the whole trip. Unfortunately not all the food was that good; I ended up in the People’s Hospital of Yangshuo on a drip :-(

Thankfully I recovered enough to re-join the sightseeing in Hong Kong. The highlight for both of us was walking on The Great Wall. We’ll start bloging our trip diary in the coming weeks, and send you some pics from dinner.

Thanks again for the opportunity to meet “in real life” :-)
